IOT sensor asset monitoring device

 

Project Overview:

The NGP 1 is an IOT sensor asset monitor or tracker device with on-board sensors which is connected to the cloud. It is powerful and packs in a series of 12 different sensors such as Temperature, light, Humidity, location etc in the small pack.

The mechanical engineering design of the NGP was done by Srushty, for that we worked with their electrical team to finalize the dimension of the product enclosure. With that compact dimension in mind, we conclude on the enclosure design and component arrangement of the product.

 

Concept-to-Production Responsibility:

  • Complete Mechanical Design starting from Industrial Design Selection

  • Collaboration with remote team working on Industrial Design, System Architecture, PCB Design, Proto Manufacturers and Production House

  • Used wide range of RAPID prototyping methods – 3D printing, Silicone Molding, CNC Machining

  • Responsibility for tool qualification, Production Line Tester design and development.

  • Design Input:Hand Sketches, Comparable Product Images, Internal Electrical/Mechanical elements Design or Just Product Brief.

  • Design Support:Industrial Design, Detailed 3D CAD design, Prototyping and Testing, Address Thermal, EMI/EMC, IP rating & Standards requirements.

  • Manufacturing:Manufacturing Drawings, Manufacturing/Tooling vendor coordination, first article inspection and validation.

  • Testing & Compliance:IP testing, Thermal Testing, Drop & Vibration Testing. Documentation for Compliance and Certification. Coordination of compliance and certification.

 

Work flow Process:

  • We understood the requirements of the clients and then prepared specifications of the project, sketches, design calculations, and general arrangement layout of component and PCB in the the enclosure.

  • Develop 3D CAD models: We made the 3D design and 3D printed parts of the enclosure as well as of the PCB to check the fitment and feel of the device compactness

  • Process the engineering design based on the internal component placement while keeping the DFM & DFA in mind.

  • Assembly sequence : the component placement and the issues regarding that such as assembly interference, ease assembling and disassembling. 

  • Clearance analysis: to ensure the dimensional accuracy for exact assembling of components and keep sufficient gap between all the components.

  • Manufacturing input: We released fabrication drawings for manufacturing purposes and provided continued support and maintenance for mass production.

 

Testing:

  • Functionality and reliability test
  • Performance test

  • Thermal Testing

  • Vibration & Drop test upto 1 meter height

 

Challenges:

Nimble wireless wanted a compact design IOT sensor loaded with an incredible set of on-board sensors which connected to the cloud for that they have given a size of Height: 74 mm, Width: 74 mm and Depth: 17 mm for the enclosure of the product. Tightly packing all the components while retaining the size of the product was the biggest challenge.

 

Solution:

Srushty with our High quality mechanical design capabilities tackled the challenges in the design to resolve space availability and manufacturing complexity issue in the product without affecting the effectiveness of the device.

 

Result:

The Innovative Next Generation IOT sensing device product was made with the same look and feel as determined by the Nimble wireless. They were very satisfied with the product design, till now we did 8 projects for them, in that 3 mechanical design for their main product and 5 for the accessories of these products.
